"Soft" Opening, November 4, 2005
Photos by David Salcido, Gilbert Gamboa & Ian WenderSoul Invictus unofficially got its start as a gallery/performance space, just three days after the lease was signed. The show which was thrown together quickly, consisted of artwork by SI tenants Ian Wender and Rebecca Hollingsworth and a late night performance by firespinning poi dancers Breath Of Fire. The theme for the evening was socio-political, with models being painted throughout the evening with anti-war slogans and interactive art being created by the crowd which cycled through for the First Friday Artwalk. The body-painting portion of the evening culminated with a photo shoot, the images from which will be used to advertise an upcoming production of Hair.
